Recovering from Depression
There are 101 steps to the morning. I get out of bed, first, I roll over. Then I lay there, hoping I can ignore yearning for more sleep, then I push myself up, check my phone, and crawl out of bed. I walk my dog, but I can’t just walk the dog. I have to put on shorts, a shirt and shoes. There’s steps to everything, I process life as a checklist, marking off one day and the next, one little step at a time, because I have to function, how I have to remember how to wake up at all.
